Solana error: Not enough SOL to pay the fee (InsufficientFundsForFee)
The fee payer did not have enough SOL to cover the network fee plus the rent for any new accounts the transaction creates.
Why it happens
- Every transaction needs a small SOL balance in the fee payer's wallet - typically a fraction of a cent, but it must exist.
- Creating a new token account costs about 0.00204 SOL of rent, which is easy to forget when you have just emptied a wallet.
- Some wallets show a rounded 0.00 balance while a few thousand lamports are still technically present, which is not enough for a transaction.
How to fix it
- Send a small amount of SOL to the wallet and retry - 0.01 SOL covers hundreds of simple transactions.
- If you are closing accounts to recover rent, do that first and use the recovered SOL for the next transaction.
- Check that you are using the same wallet as the fee payer that the interface expects.
